There is a little magic involved with termination. Variables
include the cable type and length, how many devices and the
technology of the drivers and recievers. You may have the cable
terminated at the source (ie. the SCSI card) which may be
sufficient for a scanner since most of the data travels towards
the card. A disk would be more likely to barf. My scanner (Nikon
Coolscan) uses a standard 3 foot SCSI-50 cable, and is not
detected if the terminator is not installed. The card is also
terminated.
