If I remember my old texts and such correctly, the concepts of an infection
(i.e. a suppurated wound) were understood much earlier, and physicians
would use alcohol to clean out a wound. However, the true understanding of
germs and such came around 1890, when Lister proposed that cleaning
instruments in carboxilac acid, washing one's hands and such would decrease
post surgery deaths and infections.

Dr. Kim, was this history part of your chiropractic school?
