No doubt --- consider those with hypertension and no symptoms until stroke or
heart attack; or those with aneurysm that are well until they explode; or
those with blood cell changes consistent with leukemia that are perfectly
well until it is too late; or the precancerous polyps of the colon that if
left in place become cancerous and spread. The notion is simplistic,
mechanistic and reductionistic, although it would be very nice if it were
true.
