As a suggestion for the oats - grow them in a window box ;-) When
I was a child I used to eat the raw oats straight from the plant
while they were green [as well as sweet corn right from the cob
in the field, and peas shelled right off the vines ;-)]
I would think that with 2 or 3 window boxes, rotating plantings
you could get a window box full every month or so pretty much all
year long [inside during the winter ]
