If you are creating an audio cd from a source cd and not the HDD,
your system may have failed the speed test and tested again at a
lower speed before continuing with the actual burn. This could
definitely take two hours. This test is monitoring the source cache
for data. If this cache is depleted during the write you will generate
a buffer underrun and ruin the recording. You don't have to test,
but it's a good idea if you change your hardware/software or media.
If your cd drive is not optimized for audio extraction the whole process
will be bussed through your cpu - this is a slow way to go.
Also, if you're using CD-RW media it will not write any faster than the
media's compatibility. In other words if your CD-RW disc is a 1x max.
and you select 4x for your writing speed, it will default to 1x.
If you're using CD-R media it will write at the speed you select even if
the disc doesn't support it, but increase the chance for coasters.
