To those in the New York area: There is a Heritage Tourism Conference
sponsored by the Dutchess County Tourism Promotion Agency March 24,1999, at
the Sheraton Civic Center Hotel, Poughkeepsie, NY. I don't know anything
about the depth or quality of what is being presented, but there are
workshops in displays, grants, events, trends, building a Board, etc. One
day, $75. Call 914-463-4000. Also note that there are two good (though
concurrent) sessions at the NYS Preservation League Conference in NYC March
6, one titled "Preservation on the Water" featuring Robert Elliott who is
leading the effort on the historic river towns of Westchester, and one
titled Heritage Tourism-New York's Best Kept Secret . Call Ms Weiner at
212-799-5837 or Ms Curtis at 518-462-5658. --JimR
