Could be. Some crabs hide in the sand to wait for prey. Kind of a
camouflage. An adaptation to better hunting on land?

I was wondering about this... if it has any precedent among "lower
animals"... then I thought of the hermit crab, which has a soft,
vulnerable body, and relies on finding the empty shells of dead
mollusks to wear in order to survive.
