Hi John,

Those are both good machines, I doubt that you will find any difference
while scanning documents. I also doubt that you could tell the
difference between 24 bit color and 36 bit, in fact very few
applications will handle anything over 32 bit until you get into the
professional software, like Photoshop.

The Microtek is undoubtedly a 300x600 resolution scanner though, it
should do all right on photos if you don't try to enlarge them. The
Visioneer would then be a better choice for photos. Remember though,
that when you scan at 600x1200 and 36 bit color, the files will be huge
and you will need a lot of free space on your machine to handle that.
