Hello,

In July 1998, I purchased a HiVal EPP CD-R,
based on the Mitsumi CR2801TE. It worked ok
until this past weekend, when the CD-R tray
would eject but would not retract. Because
it's out of warranty, and probably too
expensive to repair, I removed the Mistumi
CR2801TE from the enclosure, and put in its
place a 2x ATAPI IDE Sony CDU-55E CD-ROM
drive that I've been using fine for years.

If I boot into DOS, the CDBLAZER driver sees
the drive correctly as a Sony CDU-55E and
speedily reads any CD I load into the tray.

If I boot into Win98SE, Device Manager sees
correctly both the OnSpec SCSI controller and
the CD-ROM as a Sony CDU-55E. If I leave the
CD-ROM empty, Windows Explorer comes up ok.
If, however, I put a CD-ROM into the drive
tray, Windows Explorer hangs, as the CD-ROM
drive's busy light stays on. I've uninstalled
and re-installed the Parallel Port Solution
for Win95, based on OnSpec 2.71, and enabled
and disabled Auto Insert Notification in
Device Manager, but I cannot get Win98SE to
read any CD-ROM in the drive. Any ideas how
I can fix this problem?

Thanks,
Jeff Pilch
