Jim,
Here are two options to try.
1. It may need a special driver.
Find the disk that came with the mouse
or visit the web site.
2. Check for a small switch on the bottom of the mouse.
Older mice had a switch that changed the way the mouse
"talks" to the PC. It may have "jumped" to the wrong position.
