Page 1 story in Thursday's Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com):
Bidding war for the scaffolding from the Washington Monument. Target
Stores, among others, is bidding--bids in excess of $1 million. They want
to give it a permanent home elsewhere--maybe Minneapolis. Tourists (and
pigeons) would flock from all over the world to see it--a sort of
Minnesotan Eiffel Tower. Or Watts Tower.
Maybe they could erect it in a condominium--or a condomaximum.
Is this carrying preservation too far? Consider what the French mean by <<
preservatif >>.
