September 16 EASI Clinic on eTEACH, a Tool to create accessible Multimedia
Presenter and designer: Michael Litzkow
eTEACH is a new tool making the creation of multimedia easier for faculty
and other content design people. At last, there is an inexpensive authoring
tool that is easy to use and that enables a teacher to stream video,
PowerPoint,
audio and more. It produces output that looks entirely professional and
will also be fully accessible to viewers with disabilities. It also permits
adding synchronized captions for viewers who are Deaf. This software is
long overdue.
Visit the eTEACH on the Web: http://eteach.engr.wisc.edu/newEteach/home.html
An eTEACH presentation combines a video frame (Microsoft MediaPlayer) with
a slide frame (Microsoft PowerPoint), an external web links frame, a dynamic
table of contents that titles the major portions of the lecture and allows
jumping to any portion, buttons that allow the lecture to be advanced or
rewound 10 or 30 seconds, and fast forward and reverse buttons; all in an
Internet
Explorer window. The PowerPoint slides and web links automatically synchronize
with the current position in the lecture video. eTEACH supports PowerPoint
animation features for viewing in the browser. eTEACH supports accessibility
features such as closed captioning and web page readers. eTEACH has been
used extensively in reforming a large enrollment computer sciences course.
