I have a friend whose CD-ROM works intermittently but most of the time not at
all. When you try to run a music CD or data CD it says

Q:\ is not accessible
The device is not ready

I tried checking all the connections for the cables. They seem ok. Any ideas
what could cause this. As I said, it will work occasionally.

In device manager it says "this device is working properly". Under Driver Tab
it says "no driver files are required or loaded".

System is a Packard Bell 233 Mhz, 32 MB RAM, 24X Goldstar CD-ROM Model
CRD-8240B.

TIA
