You should change the IRQ for your modem and in Windows95 it takes a little
finesse. Go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager. FInd the driver for
your modem and bring up the properties box. Click on the Resources tab.
Now, uncheck the "Use Automatic Settings" box. Then, change the
"Basic Configuration 0000" to "Basic Configuration 0001"
You should be able to double click on the IRQ and change it at this point.
You typically cannot change the IRQ while it is set to Basic Configuration 0000
in Windows95. Once you have changed the IRQ to 5, see if you can now open
the port in your modem area of the Control Panel.
