> Does anyone have any comments on the following books?
> Charles Hunt's Diet Evolution

I SURE DO! I have recommended Charles Hunt's book to many, many people who
(a) have been told they need to lower their triglycerides and/or cholesterol
level, are hypertensive, overweight, lethargic, crave sweets, have diabetes,
hypoglycemia, menopausal problems, PMS, depression, and a long list of other
problems;

(b) are overhwelmed by detailed nutritional and biochemical information such
as is found in The Zone, Protein Power, etc. and just want a simple,
straightforward "here's what you do, here is how you get started

(c) don't have the time or desire to wade through a big book but might get
on the right track with a small one.
Many people I meet have short attention spans and have read soooo many diet
books. They want "short, sweet, and to the point."

(d) need a shot of inspiration, a kick in the pants, or a role model. (You
must admit--I certainly do!-- he has a physique that many men would like to
sport and many women would/do admire! Don't we all want to look and feel
fantastic! Who does not want to exude sex appeal, a fine, fit body that is
our birthright!???

(e) people who need a shock, and I know will be both shocked and moved by
Charles Hunt's story (This includes people I meet who have had coronary
events! They are moved, let me tell you. They can identify! His story
could save the lives of others who will identify with him, with his personal
story.

(f) friends who don't have time or don't know how to use the internet and
want simple, tasty recipes all in one place, bound in a book that is easily
taken into the kitchen. (The recipes are not redundant to those who have
never seen them; I'd never visited or taken recipes off the Paleo Diet site
until after I read Charles' book and tried many of the recipes while
reviewing it.

(g) people who have done the Zone diet (Don and I have) and will get a kick
out of Charles' spoof on it, particularly those who struggled to get the
ratios and portions right and learn the block system.

(h) people who might be put off by a philosophical (paleo) book, until they
have tasted some benefits, and know that there is more to taste, more to
learn, more refining to do

(i) people who may never go "the whole hog" but will at least get in the
ballpark and experience extraordinary benefits in so doing (even with a
little cheese here and a little honey there)

It takes guts to bare your soul (at whatever level), to tell your story,
reveal your vulnerabilities, fears, trials and errors (be they dietary or
otherwise), to quit a reliable job because it is killing you so you may
fallow your heart and touch others profoundly, and to bare your naked body
on the cover of a book that everyone will see. How many of you would do
that? How many of you have a body you have so invested in, that looks like
that? How many have a history, a touch with death so close, like that?

It is what it is. It is one of Charles' unique and very personal gifts to
the world. And it is helping many, many people. (Maybe not you, but
others!) It attracts those who need it. I enjoyed it. Many of my friends,
students, and acqaintances, have enjoyed it.

That's my 5,00000000000000000 cents worth. There are many roads to the same
place. Likewise, there are many ways to package something--some will be
attracted to one way, one expression; some will be attracted to another
presentation. It is like people---what attracts us to one or to another?

A friend,
Rachel Matesz
