Same goes for lead piping - the hot/ warm water can leech out the lead
into the water, mostly when the hot water has been standing awhile between
uses.  Here in Los Angeles new homes are built with nonreactive pipes
("they say") but older houses can and do have pipes that are made of
reactive metals.
