Here's excerpts from a recent posting from the NJ History listserv about
rehab tax credit legislation long in the pipeline in this state for the
"student who needs help." I am not sure that this is what he is interested
in, but, here goes.... We're hoping that it will pass this time around.

Bill Title: "The Historic Property Reinvestment Act" Bill #A1082 (Assembly)
Lead legislator: Assemblyman Richard H. Bagger, (R-District 22)
Chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee
203 Elm Street, Westfield, NJ 07090;
908-232-3673 or fax 908-232-3345

The Senate version - S163-- has been approved by the Senate with unanimous
bi-partisan support from legislators and has been referred to the Assembly
Appropriations Committee for a final vote.

<<A1082 is very important since it will be the ONLY incentive for PRIVATE
HISTORIC PROPERTY HOMEOWNERS. There are currently no financial incentives
available to assist local historic preservation commissions in the protection
of historic properties at the local level. The bill will provide a tax
credit or direct deduction off personal NJ state income tax liability for the
rehabilitation of historic property in private ownership, providing the
rehabilitation meets the Secretary of Interior's Standards for
Rehabilitation. The credit is capped at $5,000 for homeowners and $10,000
for commercial property and can be spread over a period of 3 years. The
bill’s greatest impact would be felt in our historic urban areas and lower
income neighborhoods.>>

The Senate bill’s sponsors: S163 was introduced by Senator Joseph Kyrillos
