Well, I know the "theme" of last year's National Trust conference
(registration for which is far beyond my means) was preservation as
economic development. As was the theme of Ohio's statewide preservation
conference. This, coincidentally, follows the "resignation" of our State
Historic Preservation Officer some three years ago -- the comment from the
Governor's press secretary at the time was that preservation was perceived
as an obstacle to economic development in Ohio. Are we the exception?
