There are a few settings, you can change, but I know as a new user it can be
difficult when x wants to start auto. What I would suggest, is to not install
the Xserver at first, and then first edit your /etc/inittab , change the
default setting to id:3:initdefault , 3 will give you a shell at boot, instead
of the graphical login. Yours is now set for 5  After that, reinstall the RH,
but select upgrade, and select to install the Xserver. At this point you can
now experiment some (grin)

Most of the newer video cards for Linux have to have the newest release of
XFREE86. The latest release now, is 3.3.4? It is available from
http://www.xfree86.org  or it is available on the latest RH6.1 release.
Hopefully your SIS Video is not Onboard, as these have been very hard to make
operate properly. But... If it is onboard, your best bet is to get the newest
release from SUSE ver 6.3, since suse has been developing their own drivers for
the onboard SIS.

Also, when setting up X, do not use the xconfigurator, but from a shell prompt,
type xf86config  this gives you much more flexability with the setup, so that
you can start out with reletively simple settings, and work your way up. Start
with a standard SVGA server, and work towards an accelerated setting, the same
for refresh, start out low, and work your way higher, till things work at
optimum. Don't worry about the xf86config seeming difficult, after you have run
it a few times, you will be able to fly through it.. hehe
