That "BIOS ROM checksum error" sounds like a low CMOS battery.  Look
for a silvery cell about the size of a 25-cent coin (voltage should be 3.0V)
in a holder; or a cylinder about 3/4 inch long, with plates at each end
soldered to the board (voltage should be 3.6V) - usually near the keyboard
connector.  Before you remove and replace this, try to get as much
information as you can.  There may be a replacement kit that plugs onto pins
on the motherboard so that you don't have to solder (but you should still
clip off the old battery).
