Has anyone used the shareware program called Modem Booster?
If you have, do you have any comments as to its usefulness? Since I don't
seem to be getting near the expected download speed supported by a 56K
modem, I have been looking for some program or suggestion that would "tune"
my modem and thus, recently downloaded and tried Modem Booster.
I have two ISPs I use and when I ran the program against both sites, neither
process completed. On one, it hung up almost right away and on the other,
out of 36 required calls to the ISP, it only got through about 10 before
quitting.
Are there other similar products that promise to fine tune your modem for
best efficiency with either a particular ISP or dial-up type operation in
general?
I just installed an internal US Robotics V.90 56K PCI modem and have seen
very little speed boost over my replaced 28.8 internal modem. The best I
seem to get from download speed is about 2.4 kbs - even at 6 a.m. My ISP
says they have 3 dedicated, scalable T3 connections and claim they're never
even close to half capacity on those lines.
My ISP doesn't seem to have any suggested settings that would help. I've
tried three different modem strings of blank; &f1; and &f&c1&d2 but I don't
really notice any difference among them.
Does anyone have a magic bullet suggestion?
