Dan,

As a family we spent a lot of time on road trips, simply driving around the
countryside, mostly Upstate & Southwestern NY. We could not afford much but
we could at least get out and see the world. We got a lot of seeing and the
usual sore butt from sitting in the back seat of a car. Staying with
relatives. My parents were into going to every historic site, village, and
authentic recreation they could find to get into. The trips usually ended in
a stop for icecream at the Taste Freeze. I went back a few years ago and took
pictures of the place with it in mind to write a story. Have not written the
story, still hibernating. I did not know what a banana split was until I had
my own job delivering newspapers at $7.50 per week and could pay for one.
