Well, actually there is.  Sony used to provide in some sporadic intervals.
I also saw a reference on some gaming site suggesting the use of two
cables, one db15 to db15, the other db15 to bnc to alleviate the need of
the pass thru cable for a 3D card to video combination.

My speculation on the young man's question is that the signal is degraded
less as each individual line, red/green/blue/sync's because each a
shielded from each other due to coaxial design of the cable.
