While watching Ray on 48 Hours, a commercial came on admonishing the
public to make sure they were getting 25 grams of fiber in their daily
diet to avoid colon cancer, high cholesterol, etc. They showed a lady
eating a bowl of beans, followed by a list of "great" sources of fiber
- whole grains, legumes, veggies. So here's my question - If we are
doing Paleo and hovering in, near or slightly above ketosis level, what
about this issue of enough fiber? If my recollection is correct, I do
not believe Ray's daily menu journal came near 25 grams. I know mine
doesn't , especially now that I'm limiting fruit & veggies and
increasing fat. In another interesting book entitled Native Nutrition
by Ron Schmid, NA, he asserts that some hunter-gatherers such as the
!Kung bushmen ate as much as 50 grams of fiber daily, well above U.S.
guidelines. Can someone out there please comment? I know not to
believe most dietary advice dished out by the US govt, but I am
concerned about the issue of colon cancer.
