Don and Rachel Matesz <[log in to unmask]>
Next Generation Nutrition
Outbreaks of polio can be linked to sugar consumption. In a book on
vaccinations Don read many years ago, a case was cited in which a doctor in
a small town or community saw a link between polio outbreak and sugar, ice
cream and soda consumption (especially high in the summer). He advised
people to cut out pop and some other things and greatly curtail sugar
consumption. The next year polio incidence went way down, so much so that
it was noticable to other communities/authorities. Anyway, the soda and ice
cream manufactureres didn't like this--the drop in sales and link betw.
polio and their products. So, they set out to discredit his theories and
got people to go back to those *foods* and the polio rate went up again.
Sorry I don't have the references. But it was very interesting. My thought
is that in areas of the world where infectious disease is high, they not
only suffer from overopulation, poor sanitation, but also a high carb,
low-protein diet. Protein is essential for the immune system---the right
kind and type. Don and I both noticed we had far better immunity after
switching from a macrobiotic/vegan diet to a Zone and later Paleo-type diet.
We've heard other people make the same observation. And we usually got
sick less than people we knew on veg. diets that contained less whole foods
and more refined foods (even when we ate a meatless diet).
