I had the exact same experience after following the guidelines in the
"Protein Power" book for a couple weeks.

My own pain started after only walking a couple blocks. The pain would start
in my lower back and eventually work its way down my legs.

After almost eliminating all carbs from my diet, the pain just went away.
Months later, I fell off the no-carb wagon and the pain came back.
My guess is that this is related to the relief some people feel who have
rheumatoid arthritis and go on a low or no-carb diet.
