I have seen old 486 board with onboard RAM. You should be able to add more
as much as the board can take. In your case, I believe Compaq speaking was
the truth, the mobo may only take single memory chip upto 32M. so it gives
you 16+32=48 max.
I also believe you got the point, your board is not expandable, so next
time, don't buy from 'em anymore (God knows what they will give you next
time).
