Yes, Get out your manual on the modem and while your in
hyperterminal(might have to setup a dummy phone number to get into it) you
will use such comands to see if you can talk to your modem before it ever
connects.
Type AT then ENTER key should come back with OK
Type ATD then ENTER key should pick up the phon line so you hear a dial
tone.
Look in your manual for other commands. Also you might have to tell the
modem to echo the commands back to the terminal if you don't see them
being typed on your screen.
