I am new to this list and just finished reading the back postings and
hope my experience will help someone.
The short version:
A biopsy may not show positive if you adopt a gluten free diet while
waiting for a biopsy
The long version:
I was "diagnosed" as celiac in early 1950s while putting my parents
through what must have been a horrible experience (I have my own
children now). I "grew" out of it and ate freely until my late 30's
when I started to have problems. Even though there were probably
lots of misdiagnosis in the 50's I went on a glutin free diet while
waiting for a biopsy. Three months later when I had the biopsy and
was much improved, I informed the specialist I had been on a gluten
free diet. He said it would still show, and the test came back
negative (no celiac). I ate a low but not total gluten free
diet because it "worked". Four years later more problems, another
biopsy and guess what, it was possitive!
