Does the printer port appear in the BIOS text box of installed
hardware that displays in dos before win95 loads? If so, you
should get the port in win95 after running the "detect new hardware"
wizard in control panel. If not, the port may be conflicting with
the one on the motherboard. Go into CMOS and change the motherboard
port to lpt2 or whatever. That's easier than opening the case to change
jumpers on the card.

The sound card isn't working. That is your other unknown device.
Without a motherboard name, this is only a suggestion. For a
true plug and play, run the detect new hardware, and update the
sound drivers when prompted using the motherboard's driver cd.

I've successfully done a format & re-install of WIN 95 on an
NEC Ready 9620. My only problem, is that the OS shows 2 "unknown
devices" and the sound is not working.
This motherboard has on-board sound and video, and an extra
printer port card put in by the owner. I'm fairly certain 1 of
the 2 "unknown devices" is the other printer port because only 1
shows up in the Device Manager.
My questions are: How do I get the OS to recognize the
parallel port card installed? Also, how do I find out what the
other "unknown device" is? And last, could these be using the
resources that the sound card needs and that's why it's not
working?
