Coffee drinkers should be aware that drinking coffee stimulates the
production of the amino acid homocystine, which has been implicated as a
prime cause of atherosclerosis (i.e., plaque build-up on artery walls).
Green tea doesn't have this effect. Evidence also suggests that green tea
helps lower LDL cholesterol and elevates HDL cholesterol to beneficial
levels. GT also helps maintain healthy blood pressure.
Coffee does none of these things to my knowledge. Coffee damages ones teeth
while GT helps fight plaque build-up and tooth decay. Finally, anyone
concerned about caffiene should be aware that it takes 4 cups of the
strongest GT to acquire the same amount of caffiene in 1 cup of the weakest
drip coffee.
From a health standpoint, coffee is nasty stuff. But as always, to each
his/her own.
