Several years ago, before I had ever heard of eating Paleo, I decided
to stop eating refined sugar. I continued to eat bread and other whole
carbs and just eliminated any foods with added sugar. I don't remember
how long I had been eating that way when the hot weather of summer
came along with all its usual insects, especially mosquitoes, and I
started to notice that I wasn't getting bit. I would be outside in
early evening with my wife and kids and the mosquitoes would be
eating them alive and I would never get one bite. They never even
landed on my skin even when they were clearly only an inch or two from
me.

This continued for several summers until I fell of the sugar free diet.
When I started eating sugar I started getting bit just like
everybody else

Eating Paleo has the hidden benefit of not eating refined sugars and
therefore the benefit (if my personal experience is valid) of making
us less attractive to insects.
