Offhand, I'd say an activated carbon filter should do the job. I keep
the large Brita pour-through in the fridge. The Pur brand may be better
overall because it filters finer particles. Reverse osmosis,
distillation, and under-sink carbon filters are other options. Actually,
I'm not sure about distillation. Some volatile organics, such as MTBE
(methyl tertiary-butyl ether) might well carry over with the water.
I didn't see the program. What kind of cancer is MTBE supposed to cause?
And what about the other constituents of the gasoline it comes from?
Where is that stuff going? A good carbon filter should pretty much
remove it all, anyway. You have to remember to change the filter
element, though.
