Many's the antlered beast that made it to my freezer after some deft
work with cleaver and butcher knife. The local gendarmerie must be
notified, of course, but they appreciate not having to deal with
removing a 100+ lb. animal from the roadway. If I see the accident
happen, I know the product is fresh. I offer to call the law on my cell
phone, the officer places it in my "body bag" (you think I can heave a
deer around?), and the motorist is grateful the evidence won't be around
for them to see every day as they drive to/from work. Everyone is
happy. After all, protein is protein (to a non-vegetarian). Come to
think of it, there would probably be a lot more vegetarians running
around if their meat wasn't pre-wrapped in sterile (yeah, right)
cellophane and styrofoam.

Reminds me of the story my cousin, a Michigan game warden, told about
the guy who killed a deer with his 4X4 "Monster Truck". The fellow
claimed the animal "just ran out in front". What he couldn't explain to
my cousin, however, was why the collision took place 400 yards from the
highway in a farmer's newly-planted bean field.
