Pea, Pisum sativum, is an Old World crop, i.e. it is proved to have been
cultivated by Neolithic people (the earliest finds date to 7500-6000
bc).
The genus has a small number of members, and is restricted in the wild
to
the Mediterranean basin and the Near East. Pea is associated with the
spread of Neolithic agriculture into Europe, and did (although there
might be a certain possibility that its wild ancestor was gathered by
Near Eastern Palaeolithics) surely not belong to the regular diet of
Palaeolithic people.
Cheers,
Simone
