::I cook for 5 (soon to be 6). I think it is easier than refined or
processed foods,

I agree. I abhor how the food processors are turning children into
chemical waste dumps. We use nothing with artificial colors. I did notice
tonight my garlic salt has a preservative in it, but that is the exception.
I only buy olive oil for all cooking needs. When we have icecream it is
only the old Breyers formulas. We are lucky to have a supermarket here who
carries a large amount of organic products and breads made with unbleached
flours and no preservatives. (They get bagels about 1 time a month.) Our
cookies are homemade by Aubrey or me, with unbleached flour, raw sugar,
organic eggs, and real butter. I CAN pronounce those names on the labels,
and still won't eat them! There is just no reason for it. The alternative
foods are inexpensive enough and they exist. Sometimes, I do stop women
with hyper kids and baskets full of processed foods and tell them about
artificial colors. I haven't convinced anyone yet, but I think I help open
the door.
Hah, just got a marketing survey phone call. He wanted to know if I buy
any soy products! I don't even use soy sauce. We use liquid aminos
instead.
My opinion of the worst foods Americans eat. From worst to not-so-bad
corn (incl. corn syrup in everything!), milk, wheat, potatoes, soy, and
peanuts. Oh yeah, and iceberg lettuce. :-Q
What I had hoped from this list: To share ideas like this fruit leather I
found at Wegman's. It is made by Stretch-Island. Sells for 49 cents,
makes me look like a nice mother. It has apples, cherries, orange puree
and natural flavors. (I am not the raise your own chickens type.)
I will try to remember no signature files on thislist.
