I am 22 years old, and I found out after being very sick through childhood,
at the age of 8 that I had celiac sprue. This was 1985, and at the time I
guess the specialist I went do did not have as much information as we do now.
They told me to stay away from gluten as much as possible and to keep trying
it now and again to see if I have outgrown it. In the past month I have found
out all this information from my sister a med school student and then these
various webpages regarding celiac and that I should not have any gluten
whatsoever, and hard this could be to do. But before I even attempt this, I
am wondering-should I find a new gastroenterologist and be retested? I was
never given a biopsy or a blood test, only food testing. And if so, does
anyone know of good doctors in the Virginia/tidewater area that I could go
to- or should I go to MCV?
I am new to this, though I've always avoided gluten in the obvious forms but
I never knew about some of the other things it is in, or that the smallest
molecule of gluten could have the same effect on me, and all the health
problems it can cause down the line.
Thank you for your information, and for being out there, so I can do my own
research!
