Not from Yates! (or your local commercial seed merchant)
I would explore native foods (we have lots of good ones here in AUstralia), jungles, remote forests etc. Recently we camped in a national park by some Wollemi pines, which were around a (few?) million years ago. The same species, that is. I have come across people growing very unusual & wild forms of fruit, bananas for example - maybe they are slightly 'civilized', but I am quite sure uncivilized versions still exist. We all need to study this area & put energy into growing uncivilized foods - (that may be a contradiction as they will be cultivated rather than wild)- into keeping these wild species alive.
We also need to keep in mind that we are not used to a diet of pure, wild foods and may need time to adjust, gradually. Does anyone know about growing fruit trees from seed, rather than growing established varieties? Until now my growing efforts have been focussed on vegies/vine fruits only. Everyone tells me not to grow fruits from seed as they will throw back to an older strain - my first reaction to this is - great! a more wilder variety of fruit. Maybe not so palatable to our sugar-addicted palates though. I have grown a few avo seedlings & wonder what kind of fruit to expect?
HMmmmmmmm...
blessings, Merridy
