the latest issue of "Fruit Gardener" magazine (September/October
2000, vol. 32, #5; published by California Rare Fruit Growers (CRFG),
http://www.crfg.org) has a number of interesting things in it:

* letters section (pg. 2) discusses making wine from avocado
leaves (Mexican race avos only: Guatemalan and West Indian race
avos have unpleasant tasting, possibly toxic leaves)

* letters section (pg. 3) discusses banana seeds and suppliers

* an article on the wild/native fruits and nuts of Central Texas and
surrounding hill country: plums, walnuts, pecans, mulberries,
persimmons, grapes, and others.

* pg. 24: a beautiful photo of a (Florida) jaboticaba in fruit. They
spelled
jaboticaba wrong, but it's pretty anyway. :-)

CRFG and a similar organization in Florida: RFCI--Rare Fruit Council
International (Miami)--are both non-profit and deserve your support if
you are interested in fruit.

PS RFCI website is under re-design, and was not up last time I
checked.
The CRFG website (address above) is operational.
