A number of antivirus programs automatically scan floppies
for viruses (virii?) unless they are set to do otherwise.
Norton Antivirus does this, for example. If you have an
antivirus program running (often in the background, and it
will usually show an icon in the system tray--I'm assuming
you are running Win9x.), double click its icon in the system
tray to bring up its program window. Somewhere on one of
the menus there should be a choice of "options" or
"preferences", and one of these should allow you to
"enable/disable" floppy scanning. Scan floppy may even be a
'higher' level option to be checked or unchecked on an
"options" menu.
