  I have two old IBM VGA monitors, dating from their original PS/2 generation
(April 1987).  One is a 12" that only does 640x480; the other is a 15" that
does 640x480 and 1024x768, and can be readbale at 800x600 but only with a
strange aspect ratio.  [All my other VGA/SVGA monitors are multiple-
frequency.]
  I have the latter connected to my KVM switch box, so at various times it
receives 1024x768 output from four different machines, each with its own SVGA
card of widely varying capabilities.  This seems to work fine.
