  2 Meg of video ram is, while insufficient for any gaming, pretty good
amount of memory for work: it allows 800x600x16 and even 800x600x24, which
is a recommended setting for a 15" monitor.

  Almost any 8Mb or 4Mb card should be good for you. The price tags
for either are pretty similar, so I'd take a 8 meg. 16 Meg card is not
rewuired nor would do any difference for typical work.

As for the brand, I got ATI 8M Rage [with some 3d
accelerating capabilities] for $45, an OEM version. If you are building a
system yourself, buy OEM and save cash. On video card, fancy packaging
doesn't do any good for the performance. Same about the sound card.
