I think there is some mis-information going around about this. There is no
reason for two computers to not be able to share data across a network as long
as they use the same network protocol. It doesn't matter if it is FAT16 or FAT32
on the disks.
The particular OS makes any necessary translation between the disk file
structure and the network protocol.
