Susan and Kathy both have really good ideas, I think. I, too, was thinking about the social aspects of having a full-time aide to walk around with me at school. As a person with CP, I'm sure that this would not have been acceptable in high school. Besides, if your daughter had an aide, and had started to fall, would the aide have been able to prevent injury? Or would the aide have gotten injured as well? With a smaller person, such as a young child, this might make a greater difference, but with an 18 year old . . .

But, what about a walker? The kind that come in all kinds of colors, have large wheels, and a basket and usually a seat. At 39, I'm planning on getting one because my confidence/balance has gone down the tubes. It took about two to three years for me to psychologically accept that getting a walker could be better than not being able to walk effectively. Granted, a walker may not be accepted by your daughter, either, for the same reasons that it took me so long to get used to the idea. "But, I'll look more disabled!". And to be fair, when I use it, more people treat me as if I have a "more severe" disability.

Kathy's point about getting a helmet is great, especially if your daughter has conditions/concerns/issues that increase the seriousness of head injury. Although, wearing a helmet may not be acceptable to your daughter either, because of the social aspects, especially if she hasn't worn one before this.

Just my opinions.
