I have an 8900 in one of my machines, and I don't think it uses an
IRQ. [I'll try to remember to double check tonight.]
On PCI video cards, an IRQ is often used for:
(a) on-board MPEG decoder hardware
(b) DirectX support
(c) something I'm forgetting -- 3D support?
Anyway, the point is that the 8900 is too vanilla to need any of
these.
To pursue the underlying question: What locks up, the drive or the
whole system? What other drives are present? What devices are shown
using IRQs?
