Fast SCSI is capable of 10 MB/s; Ultra SCSI doubles the pulse rate
to be able to handle 20 MB/s. Wide SCSI moves 16 bits at a time
instead of 8, so it can handle 20 MB/s, and Ultra Wide can handle up
to 40 MB/s. Note that most hard drives can pump less than 20 MB/s,
and devices like zip drives and scanners are slower than that.

My preferred card for your situation is the Diamond FirePort 40.
It provides a Fast SCSI connector for external devices, and your
choice of wide or narrow internal connections for your hard drive.
