Michael,

The first part of your confusion is in assuming this is a "vxd fault".

A Virtual Device Driver (VXD) has **caused** the problem, but there were
other words in the error message that described exactly what "kind" of fault
you are experiencing. Without knowing the specific error, we can't give you
a lot of details, but in general.....

As far as I know, mismatched RAM sticks (or a bad RAM module)
are the only hardware cause of this type of RANDOM problem.

They are almost always software related.
They can be caused by corrupted files, or out of date DLLs, or multiple
versions of DLLs.

This question may have been asked before but as usual it seems to keep
coming up and I can't seem to get an answer that is quite satisfactory.

I have some machines that just keep crashing and coming up with vxd faults
showing. This happens even with a clean reinstall of 95 or 98 after
repartitioning and format.

The question is: Is this a hardware or software fault. I believe it's a
hardware fault but keep getting arguments that it's a software fault.

Can someone put a bit of light on this question?
