Carole,
It appears that the problem may be with the copy command.
But there are a couple more tests you should make.
Can you create a file and write to the A drive?
Can you copy a file from one folder to another on the C drive?
Also, was anyone working on the PC just before this problem started?
New software installed? New hardware installed?
Was the PC recently moved from a different location?
Answers to these questions will help us to help you.
Send your reply to the list.

More info about our problem. We can read from the A drive but we cannot
copy to or from the A drive. When we try to copy a file to the A drive we
get the blue screen with "DISC WRITE ERROR. Unable to write to disc in
drive A: Data or files may be lost. Press any key to continue". This then
takes us back to the original folder from which we are trying to copy the
file. When we try to copy a file from the A drive we get "Error copying
file.Cannot copy file. The system cannot read from the specified device".
Hopefully this will give a clue to someone who can help us with our
problem. TIA.Carole Long
