Definitely sounds like something is shorting to ground when it
shouldn't. Check the underside of the board for protruding wire/pins
in that general area.
If a motherboard mounting hole is surrounded by metal, it is
*designed* to be a ground point. If NOT, then a fiber washer under the
head of the screw will prevent damage to the board from the screw head
being tightened. [Those washers do not provide reliable electrical
isolation, so they are unlikely to solve your problem.]
