Given the recent discussion of insects on this list (I been unable to forget
Ray's vivid description of humans as naked bug magnets), I thought that the
following excerpt might be of interest:

<<A constant concern of the Eskimo household is the lice, even though
Eskimos get rather used to them. The wife delouses the husband,
particularly his long hair, when the plague becomes too bad. And the
husband, I have seen, often delouses the children and eats their lice with
great relish, only once in a while handing one to the tot so that he also
could have a little pleasure from them.>> (_Book of the Eskimos_, Peter
Freuchen, 1961, p. 32).

In case no one else makes the connection, I should point out that these
observations suggest a solution to the dilemma of finding a suitable diet
for paleo-infants. ;-)

Cheers,
